Checkmate

As is ritual, here is where I make my blanket apology for not posting anything in a long, long time. Turns out your practicum semester of senior-year is every bit as awful as they say it is. Not awful hard, but awful busy.
Thankfully (appropriate for the upcoming holiday), as soon as I had all the data I needed from my students, I hunkered down on Saturday and was able to work almost non-stop until Monday night….. and when I pressed “save” on my electronic portfolio, I was done for the semester.
Thankful, indeed. Thankful, also, because my body rebelled against all this hard work and productivity and allowed myself to catch my roommate’s cold. Michelle is very generous. Even with colds.
So my throat is a rough grade of sandpaper and my sinus cavities are double-puffed marshmallows. I’m managing.
But it’s done. Get me sick, I don’t care. My work is done for this semester! Yes, I still have a week of elementary school to attend, but who cares when a 100-page portfolio is no longer hanging over my head?
Other than portfolio business, life has been handing me its own lessons to learn. I’m growing as a teacher, as a student, as a fiancee, as a friend. The “real world” (as I call it) is fast-approaching and if next semester is as fast as this one, I’m going to disintigrate. It won’t be as fast as this one- it will be faster. That’s just life.
So, the real world.
I have to get a job… a teaching job is certainly preferable to something else (I mean, what’s the past 4 years of my life going to be worth if I go into something completely unrelated to teaching?) but you do what you have to do. I get that.
Now WHERE I’m living is an entirely different matter. Here’s what I can tell you about my real-world, post-married life.
1. I will be somewhere with Stephen
2. It will be on planet earth.
….. that’s about all I got.
Don’t worry- as soon as I know something, you’ll know. Why? Because I’m so stinkin’ exciting about real world life!! Bring it on.
Until more work is assigned, you can be assured I’ll update more frequently now that my nasty portfolio is sitting, completed, on my desk in my apartment. Checkmate, Fall 2011.
